Story Board

Alright, so my group starts out our storyboard by first thinking how we are going to start off the opening. We decided that, since it is an action film with a little bit of mystery, we will open up an eerie night  at the school would work the best as there are high-sequence chase scenes and stunts. Naturally, we also decided that this shot would first be an establishing shot to show the location, a panning shot as they run, and a point of view shot for effects. We also decided what music will be playing throughout the film but we do plan on editing sounds. So the film starts off 1 year earlier as a group of college friends are suddenly being chased by a mysterious figure as they are running for their lives one of them trips by a booby traps and you know the rest....1 year back to the present time the group of friends (one of the main character who happens to  be studying to be an detective) visits the same old spot until the main character notices something puzzling. A clue and the title opening starts there.

In terms of the physical storyboard creation, Donte helped draw the scenes, Me and Trent came up with the plot, and Lenka is somewhere sleeping in Panama

Film OPening brainstorm and opening

While watching these videos (unfortunately I don't think would be considered action genre), I do noy have too many ideas on how to make my opening film. However, I did find some key filming element that I came up with Donte.

Here are the elements we came up for when we film:

- Name of production and main characters is shown in the film opening.
- Music helps set the tone of the film.
- A variety of camera angle shots helps establish different characters.
- Genre of movie is shown through early shots.
- Setting of film is shown through surrounding environment and the people in the area.
- Tempo of film is set through movement of characters and music.
- Can start in current time and then relay into the past and something that had happened before, or the other way around.
- Close up camera shots can often establish one's character and the role that they will play in the film.
- Main character can often be shown in a situation where they have an inkling that something isn't completely normal.
- Possessions of a character can be shown in order to create a better understanding of who they are and how that characteristic may later affect the film.
- A filter or the natural lighting of the area can help establish an overall mood of the film.
- An environment that is generally said to be unsafe can build suspicion among viewers and characters.
- Body language of characters can often foreshadow what may occur in the future.
- Animations that are made through the computer can add certain effects to the mood of the film.
- A narration by a main character signifies that they are of great importance to the film and that the film will likely be through their perspective and point of view.
- A random encounter with a new character can imply that they will play a big role in the future of the film.

Genre inspiration

It was any Saturday you could pick around the early 2000s, I have found myself imagining as I am a director that is filming the next action blockbuster. Although this is embarrassing to admit as a young child, every time I would watch an action film I felt inspired to make my own. Recalling my first interest in filmmaking ties back viewing the Transformer film. I have found myself and a friend from church creating a storyboard based on the same exact plot but with my own made up alien soldiers (I was like eight years old at the time). Starting with the very beginning of the film, the viewers are immediately thrown into some straight heat! For example, Optimus Prime begins narrating about the allsparks which set off the chills and excitement going down my spine. The after the title scene, the CIA or whatever goes out somewhere in the middle east to go mess up a Decepticon (the main villains of the film franchise). So by the first three minutes, I am instantly hooked as I prepared for the best two hours of my eight years old life, the film opens up with everything you will expect an action movie should have: the establishing and jump shots, the epic battle sequence to bring the audience to the edge of their seat, suspense and of course the fight scene. Ultimately, all of the features in the opening of this film help to create a sense of excitement knowing and to truly teach me as a person to do what is right and what is wrong.

Another action film I have watch that inspires me is The Dark Knight(2008), in the opening credits, I am witnessing a bank robbery by the Joker and his goons as they do all these crazy stunts taken in these crazy angles (e.g bird-of-view, zooming, established) and then after that it gets really graphic with someone pulling  grenade inside someone's mouth. I do not know about you but I found it awesome and just help runs ideas of how I can improve it or make it seem better, for example, what sounds I would have used to heighten the situation. Personally, I feel that a great action film should get straight to the plot or go over the extreme to help grasp the audience attention. This movie does all that by opening the film is gonna revolve around the joker causing mayhem in the city and letting me know as the viewer this is going to be intense really quick. Similar to the Transformer(2007) opening where we cut to the point of the CIA fighting the Decepticons.

Through watching  The Dark Knight(2008) and Transformer(2007), I became enlightened about how exciting it can be to view a movie that got action all over. Actions movies do typically follow cliches, and thus can take be quite predictable as the hero always comes out victorious. However they all do end with the villian ends up winning, which in turn leaves to cliffhangers. Now that just gets me more excited and thus helping me chose the action genre for my AICE Media Studies film opening.
