Genre inspiration

It was any Saturday you could pick around the early 2000s, I have found myself imagining as I am a director that is filming the next action blockbuster. Although this is embarrassing to admit as a young child, every time I would watch an action film I felt inspired to make my own. Recalling my first interest in filmmaking ties back viewing the Transformer film. I have found myself and a friend from church creating a storyboard based on the same exact plot but with my own made up alien soldiers (I was like eight years old at the time). Starting with the very beginning of the film, the viewers are immediately thrown into some straight heat! For example, Optimus Prime begins narrating about the allsparks which set off the chills and excitement going down my spine. The after the title scene, the CIA or whatever goes out somewhere in the middle east to go mess up a Decepticon (the main villains of the film franchise). So by the first three minutes, I am instantly hooked as I prepared for the best two hours of my eight years old life, the film opens up with everything you will expect an action movie should have: the establishing and jump shots, the epic battle sequence to bring the audience to the edge of their seat, suspense and of course the fight scene. Ultimately, all of the features in the opening of this film help to create a sense of excitement knowing and to truly teach me as a person to do what is right and what is wrong.

Another action film I have watch that inspires me is The Dark Knight(2008), in the opening credits, I am witnessing a bank robbery by the Joker and his goons as they do all these crazy stunts taken in these crazy angles (e.g bird-of-view, zooming, established) and then after that it gets really graphic with someone pulling  grenade inside someone's mouth. I do not know about you but I found it awesome and just help runs ideas of how I can improve it or make it seem better, for example, what sounds I would have used to heighten the situation. Personally, I feel that a great action film should get straight to the plot or go over the extreme to help grasp the audience attention. This movie does all that by opening the film is gonna revolve around the joker causing mayhem in the city and letting me know as the viewer this is going to be intense really quick. Similar to the Transformer(2007) opening where we cut to the point of the CIA fighting the Decepticons.

Through watching  The Dark Knight(2008) and Transformer(2007), I became enlightened about how exciting it can be to view a movie that got action all over. Actions movies do typically follow cliches, and thus can take be quite predictable as the hero always comes out victorious. However they all do end with the villian ends up winning, which in turn leaves to cliffhangers. Now that just gets me more excited and thus helping me chose the action genre for my AICE Media Studies film opening.
